UFFS Announces Baseball’s First Digital Athlete NFT, World Series Champion, Ian Kinsler

In his final MLB at-bat on August 12th, 2019, Ian Kinsler hit a home run — becoming just the 59th player in baseball’s storied history to accomplish that feat.

Now, after suiting up for Team Israel at the Olympic Games this summer, the 4-time All Star is coming out of retirement as baseball’s first Digital Athlete NFT on the Ultimate Franchise Fantasy Sports platform.

A 2018 World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox, Kinsler will lead the way for future baseball NFTs, generating revenue for athletes through NFT sales as well as from fantasy gameplay in Ultimate Fantasy League Baseball and Legends League Baseball — something that has never been done before, rewarding athletes for their contributions to fantasy franchises and providing perpetual earnings from their successful careers!

“I’m fired up to be joining Ultimate Franchise Fantasy Sports and representing the baseball side of things at Ultimate Fantasy League Baseball,” said Kinsler, who is now part of the San Diego Padres’ front office. “Once you look into what UFFS has to offer, you will be instantly hooked. If you want to be as close to the real thing as possible, this is for you!”

As a member of Canyon del Oro High School in the Tucson suburb of Oro Valley, Arizona, Kinsler led the Dorados to state titles in 1997 and 2000. He was twice drafted by his home state Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000 and 2001 but stayed in college where he suited up with Central Arizona College, Arizona State, and the University of Missouri.

A 17th-round pick by the Texas Rangers in 2003, Kinsler is a two-time member of the coveted 30-30 club for home runs and steals in a season — becoming one of only 13 players to turn the 30-30 trick more than once. Kinsler did it in 2009 and again in 2011, a campaign where he finished 11th in MVP voting. Over his 14-year career, Kinsler averaged 22 home runs and 21 stolen bases per season, while hitting .269 with an OPS of .777.

“It is really exciting to welcome Ian to the UFF Sports family as our first baseball Digital Athlete NFT,” said Dean Millard, Head of Baseball for UFF Sports. “He owns a World Series ring — even though it came at the expense of my favourite team, the Dodgers — it’s a special club to be a part of and it brings with it so much credibility. He also just represented Israel at the Olympics, which is also a rare accomplishment, and that’s where he was teammates with UFLB Director of Competition Matt Soren, who was instrumental in Ian joining our UFFS team.”

Kinsler patrolled second base his whole career, which started with Texas and also saw him suit up for the Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, and San Diego Padres, who still employ him as an advisor in the front office. His defensive play earned him a Gold Glove in 2016 and 2018 — nine years after being named one of baseball’s Top 50 Players by Sporting News — making him a true 5-tool player for his ability to hit for power and average, his speed on the basepaths, his strong throwing arm and his stellar defensive play. Kinsler’s three seasons of hitting at least 20 home runs and stealing 20 bases is one shy of the MLB record for second basemen.

He also enjoyed a historic night on April 15th, 2009, when Kinsler became just the fourth Texas Ranger to hit for the cycle, and the first to collect 6 hits in a 9-inning game — going 6-for-6 against the Baltimore Orioles. Something that hadn’t been accomplished since 1890.

“I’ve been a part of many big games, from All Star Games to the Olympics, and the World Series. This league feels like a fantasy version of all those rolled into one,” raved Kinsler.

The UFLB Rulebook and an owners package will be released shortly, with franchise auctions scheduled for November 5-7.  For more information, head to www.UFFSports.com or email dean_uflb@uffsports.com.
